Over a year of attacks on Gaza has led to a devastating humanitarian crisis, particularly affecting the region’s children. With thousands of families displaced and many parents killed, the number of orphans in Gaza has surged dramatically. This crisis has created an urgent need for comprehensive support systems to ensure these vulnerable children receive the care, education, and protection they deserve.
Estimates suggest that the conflict has left over 17,000 children orphaned in Gaza. These children face immense challenges, including a lack of access to necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare. The psychological impact of losing a parent, combined with the trauma of living in a conflict zone, places these children at significant risk for long-term emotional and developmental issues.

Aghosh UK, a registered Muslim charity run by dedicated professionals, and the UK partner of the long-established NGO Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan has been at the forefront of providing hope to displaced Palestinian children by establishing schools in South Gaza to resume learning activities. On Eid-ul-Fitr, the President of Alkhidmat Foundation, Prof. Dr. Hafeez ur Rahman, personally travelled to Cairo to spend time with relocated Gazan families in Egypt. Hundreds of Gazan families were hosted by Alkhidmat during Eid celebrations in Cairo, demonstrating solidarity with over 2.2 million displaced individuals still trapped in Gaza. Over the past 189 days, Alkhidmat has delivered thousands of tonnes of relief aid through international partners in Gaza, showcasing our unwavering commitment to supporting those in need.
Moreover, we have organised learning workshops for the displaced children of Gaza whose schools have been destroyed where they can revise the basics and work on their language skills and other subjects. These engaging learning centres allow children ravaged by war to learn and develop in a healthy environment with other displaced children, renewing and nourishing their hope and eagerness to learn.
Aghosh UK realises that in times of war and crisis, children are often the most vulnerable to not only physical but also psychological trauma. Aghosh UK in collaboration with Alkhidmat Foundation set up a Play Zone in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, to create a healthy environment for children to enjoy some joy and pleasure, despite the huge challenges around them.
Our initiatives also include celebrating the wins and victories of orphaned children. Aghosh UK recently celebrated the results day at Aghosh Gaziantep in Turkiye, where Syrian orphan children were rewarded for their efforts and granted certificates and awards. This not only acknowledges their efforts but also fosters a sense of accomplishment and motivation for their future endeavours.
