Qurbani, also known as Udhiyah, is an act of worship performed during Eid ul Adha. It involves the sacrifice of a livestock animal in the days of Dhul Hijjah.
It commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim AS, who was willing to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail AS in obedience to Allah. As Ibrahim AS prepared to fulfil that command, Allah accepted his intention and replaced Ismail with a ram.
Qurbani is not just an animal slaughter. It is a deeply rooted act of obedience, gratitude, and care. Through Qurbani, we offer worship, feed the hungry, and revive a Sunnah that nourishes both body and soul.
Qurbani is a Sunnah of Ibrahim AS and a beloved act of worship. Through it, every Muslim renews submission to Allah.
For many disadvantaged families across rural Pakistan and refugee communities, Eid ul Adha is the one day of the year they will eat fresh meat.
Animals are sourced locally wherever possible. Farmers earn, butchers work, and rural traders see business.
Qurbani is obligatory upon every sane adult Muslim, male or female, who possesses wealth in excess of their essential needs.
Rule of thumb: If you are eligible to pay Zakat, you are obliged to give Qurbani.
One Qurbani per eligible person: One Qurbani is offered per eligible adult, not per household.
When is it performed? Qurbani is offered on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah. In 2026, this is expected to fall between 27 May and 29 May.
