Frequently Asked Questions
How does Aghosh UK select those who receive Qurbani meat?
It is the core policy of Aghosh UK to ensure that your sacrifice reaches the most vulnerable members of our Ummah. We utilize a rigorous scoring system that ranks families based on objective need, ensuring your gift is delivered without bias.
Our selection criteria prioritize:
Low-Income Families: Those living below the minimum wage in their specific region.
Vulnerable Households: Female-headed households or families caring for the elderly or disabled.
Maternal & Child Health: Families with children under five, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers.
Remote Access: Communities with little to no access to local markets.
A thorough assessment is conducted by our field teams to weight these factors, ensuring we reach those who often wait the entire year to eat meat. To serve as many people as possible, we distribute one Qurbani meat pack per family.
Am I required to perform Qurbani on behalf of my children?
The requirement for children’s Qurbani varies depending on the school of Islamic jurisprudence you follow. We recommend consulting your local Imam or scholar for specific guidance.
Under the Hanafi school of thought, Qurbani is generally obligatory for:
Every sane Muslim who has reached the age of maturity (puberty).
Those who are not traveling during the days of Eid.
Individuals who possess wealth beyond their basic needs that meets or exceeds the Nisab threshold ($87.48g$ of gold or $612.35g$ of silver).
