Palestinian refugees in Lebanon

Palestinian refugees in Lebanon
Project Overview
The Lebanon Emergency Deployment 2026 is a short-term humanitarian response aimed at delivering urgent relief to vulnerable and displaced families across Lebanon. With a budget of £15,000 and a five-day deployment period, the project will focus on emergency assistance including food support, essential medical aid, and basic relief items, working closely with local partners to ensure timely delivery, accountability, and dignified support to those most affected by ongoing economic and humanitarian challenges.
Project Background
Lebanon continues to face significant humanitarian challenges driven by economic crisis, displacement, and infrastructure deterioration. Many vulnerable households, including displaced populations and refugees, live in overcrowded or damaged shelters with limited protection from harsh weather conditions. Seasonal winter rains and extreme summer heat further increase shelter-related risks.
The shortage of affordable and durable shelter materials has heightened vulnerability among affected communities. Tarpaulins are identified as a critical non-food item (NFI) to provide immediate weatherproofing and temporary shelter support, improving safety and living conditions for vulnerable populations.

Needs Assessment
Displacement and Shelter Gaps: Many households, including displaced populations, live in overcrowded or damaged shelters that provide inadequate protection.
Weather Vulnerability: Lebanon experiences heavy winter rains, cold temperatures, and summer heat, increasing the need for waterproof and durable shelter materials.
Limited Local Resources: Economic constraints and rising costs limit vulnerable families’ ability to repair or reinforce shelters.
Protection and Privacy: Tarpaulins are needed to create partitions, enhance privacy, and improve safety and dignity in shared or informal living spaces.
Justification Summary
The distribution of tarpaulins addresses urgent humanitarian needs by:
- Providing immediate protection from rain, wind, and sun.
- Improving privacy, safety, and basic living conditions.
- Reducing health risks linked to exposure to harsh weather.
- Offering a rapid and cost-effective alternative to temporary shelter construction.
This intervention aligns with international humanitarian standards (Sphere) and complements ongoing shelter and NFI response efforts in Lebanon.
