Healthcare in Gaza: A Snapshot

Doctors, nurses, ambulance crews, pharmacy staff and hospital support teams treat patients under heavy bombardment, with very limited pay, long hours and repeated displacement.

Hospitals are under frequent attack even though they are meant to be protected under international law. Only 18 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are partially functional. Fuel, water, and medical supplies are increasingly scarce.

Thousands of healthcare workers have been killed, injured, detained or are missing.

How health-worker families are living now:

The loss of a beloved family member, and often the sole breadwinner

Families struggle to live in tents or damaged homes; they are often forcibly displaced and have to move to find safety

It is a daily struggle to access or afford the basics of life, including food, clean water, medication, and baby items

Caregivers often skip meals so that their dependents do not have to go without

Increasing famine rates and soaring prices in remaining markets
