Executive Summary

Aghosh UK is seeking to fund the procurement and installation of a Phacoemulsification (FECO) Machine for the Eye Department at Kibuli Muslim Hospital in Kampala, Uganda. The hospital provides free or heavily subsidised eye care to between 1,500 and 2,000 patients each year, many of whom live with cataracts and other preventable causes of blindness. Modern phaco equipment will allow the Eye Department to perform cataract surgery far more efficiently, cut waiting times, and significantly improve patient outcomes.

Objectives

  • Procure and install a Phacoemulsification (FECO) Machine in the Eye Department at Kibuli Muslim Hospital.
  • Improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of cataract surgery.
  • Increase the number of patients treated each year, particularly free-of-cost beneficiaries.
  • Build long-term capacity for advanced ophthalmic care in the region.
